Dublin is one of the twenty-six counties in the Republic of Ireland.
It is in the province of Leinster.
It has an area of approximately 355 sq miles.
It has a population of approximately 1,188,000 people.
This makes Dublin the most populous county in Ireland.
It is the third smallest county in Ireland.
The Irish name for Dublin is Dubh Linn meaning Black Pool.
The modern Irish name for the City of Dublin is Baile Áth Cliath which means The Town of the Ford of the Hurdles. This refers to an artificial timber ford that crossed the River Liffey where the main road from Tara to Wicklow crossed the river.
The county of Dublin has existed as far back as the Norman invasion.
The highest point in Co. Dublin is Kippure, 2,467 feet.
In 1994 the County of Dublin was dissolved as an administrative area.
It was divided into the administrative counties of Dun Laoghaire – Rathdown, Fingal, and South Dublin.
Collectively these now make up the Dublin Region.
Dublin is bordered by three counties.
These are Kildare, Meath, and Wicklow.
